The Very First Thing You Should Do When It’s Time to Clean the Kitchen

Maintaining a clean kitchen is a perpetual task that’s best performed as a collection of habitual motions you barely notice: Filling the dishwasher with breakfast dishes before you fill your water bottle for the day. Clearing off and wiping down counters while you recount the day’s schedule. These are the daily rhythms of life that take place in the heart of the home.

Celebrity hairstylist Jen Atkin demonstrates how to cut your own hair at home
Whether you are practicing social distancing or simply have always wanted to know, celebrity hairstylist Jen Atkin has tips for how to cut your own hair from home. On Instagram, Atkin shows how to cut one's hair in the video "How To Cut Your Own Hair Part 1: The Fringe," and she warned in her caption to make sure you are using scissors responsibly. In the video, she shows how to cut long layers and bangs while spraying her hair with a water bottle. MORE: Top stylists offer tips and techniques for touching up hair color at home Tools needed: - Wide tooth comb - Fine tooth comb - Razor - Scissors - Thinning Shears View this post on Instagram A post shared by Founder/Hairstylist/DogMom (@jenatkinhair) on Mar 31, 2020 at 6:41pm PDT How to cut bangs Step 1: Use spray bottle to wet clean hair all over. Step 2: Use a comb to create a middle part, and comb hair straight down. Step 3: Create two small triangles on both sides of your middle part toward your forehead. Tuck the rest of your hair behind your ears and gather in a scrunchie. Step 4: Comb two triangle-like sections together toward the front of your head. Step 5: Gather your center strands between your index and center strands. Eyeball how much you want to cut and bring your fingers there. Step 6: Still holding center strands with your index and middle finger, cut straight across underneath your fingers. Step 7: Split hair back down the middle and cut each on an angle from short to long. Step 8: Bring sections back together to clean up any undesired unevenness. Step 9: Create middle part again and make two bigger triangular sections on each side just past your eyebrow. Step 10: Cut each section on an angle from short to long. Tip: If you prefer to use a razor, hold section and slither strands downward. Step 11: Comb both sections together again and clean up any unevenness with your scissors. Tip: Cut an an upward motion rather than straight across. Step 12: Split hair back down the middle. If you have medium textured hair like Atkin, use thinning shears to slightly nibble at ends. For those with fine hair, cut blunt lines. If you have medium-textured hair, take a little bit of weight out. If you have really thick hair, you should take a lot of weight out. Since posting, Atkins' video has received over 500,000 views, with many people thanking her for the demonstrations. "This is amazing for this weird in between time until we can see our stylists again," one fan commented. MORE: No nail salon? Here's how to remove your gel manicure at home At the end of Atkin's how-to video, clip she lets fans know a "Part 2" is on the way. Editor's note: This was originally published on April. 3, 2020. Volunteers remove more than 9,000 lbs of trash from Tennessee River
Keep the Tennessee River Beautiful and the Johnsonville State Historic Park rid the river of 9,208 pounds of trash over the course of three days. (CNN) — In an epic cleanup effort, volunteers removed more than 9,000 pounds of trash from the Tennessee River, one of the dirtiest rivers in the country. Over the course of three days earlier this month, volunteers with Keep the Tennessee River Beautiful and Johnsonville State Historic Park rid the river of 9,208 pounds of trash, using a 25-foot aluminum work boat to traverse the river and clean shorelines, a news release stated. "That's how the change for our river will happen: through local partners and individuals who are eager about taking ownership to protect and improve their beautiful river community," said Kathleen Gibi, executive director of Keep the Tennessee River Beautiful. "It's been truly inspiring for us to see these change makers take action -- especially with the local leadership from Johnsonville State Historic Park."The team led another cleanup in October, when they collected 4,811 pounds of trash. And there's still more to be cleaned; the team is planning another event in April and aims to collect 100,000 pounds of trash from the river by the end of the year. The Tennessee River, a 652-mile tributary of the Ohio River, is notoriously polluted. In 2019, researchers said the river was more like a river of plastic, according to CNN affiliate WVLT, possibly with more broken down bits of plastic than any other river in the world. "In terms of the other types of pollution, pharmaceuticals, heavy metal, the Tennessee River really isn't so bad," Michelle Campanis, University of Tennessee Arboretum education coordinator, told WVLT. "The microplastics are astronomically higher than any other river they've studied."Tennessee RiverPharmaceuticalsThe Ohio RiverPollution000VolunteersOhio State UniversityTrashClean ShorelinesPlasticBoatCommunityCNN Affiliate WVLTAluminumHeavy Metal

How can we ensure energy is clean, secure and affordable?
The energy industry is at the heart of the global post-COVID-19 recovery. But it faces what has been called 'the energy trilemma'; the conflicting challenges of security, accessibility and environmental sustainability. Victoria Beckham's new "clean" mascara is here
Future Lash promises to lengthen, define and nourish. As some beauty experts furiously debate the merit and the science of 'clean beauty,' I like to take a more practical approach: If the product repeatedly goes near or inside my precious eyeball (as mascara often does), I like knowing it was formulated with an abundance of caution in mind. Unfortunately, mascaras with 'clean' formulas have long had a reputation for being flaky and dull, but that's precisely what Victoria Beckham set out to change with her new launch, Future Lash.Read Full StoryFashion & BeautyMascaraAffiliate MarketingLeicester SquareCelebritiesBlack BeautyClean WaterInstagramFuture LashHarperHearst UKBAZAARClean BeautyFluttery LashesFragranceVictoria Beckham
